Cambridge Flyers Exam

 

On the right there are the vocabulary and grammar lists for Flyers. Students are expected to know all the grammar and vocabulary from these list including the grammar and vocabulary from the Starters and Movers (both of which are also included).

Reading and Writing

 

The reading and writing exam has seven parts and lasts 40 minutes. Below practice exams can be downloaded.

Listening

 

The listening exam is in five parts and lasts around 25 minutes. Below are some practice exams.

Speaking

 

The speaking exam has four parts and lasts between 7 -9 minutes.

 

El examen oral tiene cuatro partes y dura entre 7 -9 minutos.

 

 

Part One

 

 

The examiner has one picture and the student has a similar picture but with differences. The examiner will say one sentence and the student must say the difference in their picture.

 

El examinador tiene un cuadro y el estudiante tiene un cuadro similar, pero con diferencias. El examinador dirá que una oración y el estudiante deben decir la diferencia en su cuadro.

 

eg:

 

Examiner: In my picture, there is a cat in the tree.

 

Student: In my picture, the cat is next to the swimming pool.

 

Useful Phrases

 

Present Continuous

 

For peoples' actions we use the present continuous:

 

The girl is reading. / The girl isn't reading.

 

The boy is wearing a hat. / The boy isn't wearing a hat.

 

 

Present Simple

 

To describe things we use the present simple:

 

The pilot's uniform is green. / The pilot's uniform is blue.

 

The old woman has got straight hair. / The old woman has got curly hair.

 

 

 

Part Two

 

 

The student and examiner take turns to ask answer questions. Both examiner and student have a picture with information.

 

El estudiante y el examinador se turnan para preguntar y contestar preguntas. Ambos examinador y el estudiante tiene una imagen con la información.

Auxillary Verbs in present simple and past simple

Student:  What is the name of William's dvd?

Examiner: It's called Island Adventure.

Student:  Who gave it to him?

Examiner:  His uncle gave it to him.

Student:  What is it about?

Examiner: It is about three pirates.

Student: When did he watch it?

Examiner: He watched it last week.

Student: Was it exciting or boring?

Examiner: It wasexciting.

 

This is then repeated with the examiner asking the questions and the student answering them.

 

Luego se repite con el examinador pidiendo las preguntas y el estudiante responderlas.

 

 

 

Part Three

 

 

In part three, students will be shown four pictures that form a story. The examiner tells the student the title of the story and begins the story using the first picture. Students must finish the story using the other three pictures.

 

En la tecera parte, los estudiantes se muestran cuatro imágenes que forman una historia. El examinador le dice al estudiante el título de la historia y comienza la historia con la primera imagen. Los estudiantes deben terminar la historia con las otras tres imágenes.

 

 

Useful Phrases

 

 

Present Continuous

It is night time. His bedroom is tidy.

 

 

Adjectives

 

Use some adjectives:

 

Happy / Sad / Serious / Beautiful / Cloudy / Sunny etc

Tommy is getting dressed. He is sitting on his bed. It is the morning and it is a sunny day.

 

 

 

Part Four

 

In part four, students must answer personal questions.

 

En la cuarta parte, los estudiantes deben responder preguntas personales.

Some examples might be:

2. What’s the name of your best friend?
3. What’s your favourite subject at school?
4. What are your hobbies?
5. What do you have for breakfast?
6. What do you have for lunch?

***Remember to answer in sentences not with just one word.***
