Adverbs of manner

 

 

Adverbs of manner tell us how something happens. They are usually placed after the  verb or after the object. Most adverbs of manner end in -ly.

 

After the verb
  • He swims well.
  • He runs... rapidly, slowly, quickly..
  • She speaks... softly, loudly, aggressively.
  • James shouts loudly in class.

 

After the object

  • He plays the piano beautifully.
  • He eats the chocolate cake greedily.

Relative Clauses with WHERE

 

The relative clause for places is where.

 

A cinema is a building where you watch films.

A supermarket is a shop where you can buy food.

Marbella is a town where you can go on holiday.

 

Often we use where with you can.

 

A place where you can eat.                       A restaurant.

A place where you can swim.                   A swimming pool.

My favourite hobby is basketball. I play basketball with my friends and I play basketball for a team on Saturdays. My team is good but we are third from bottom in the league because we are playing badly at the moment and the other teams are better than us.

 

I am a good basketball player because I run fast, pass beautifully, defend strongly and motivate my team well. I like basketball because it is more enjoyable than other sports and it is good exercise.
