This unit looks at telling a story using the present continuous and shall.

 

Telling a story in present continuous

 


In the movers speaking exam part two and this unit students must tell a story, using pictures, in the present continuous and present simple.

 

Present Continuous is used to say what actions the people are doing.

 

eg: They are running.    He is painting. etc

 

 

We must add more information.

 

eg: They are running fast in the park.

 

He is painting a picture of a beautiful flower.

 

 

 

Present Simple is used to describe things, normally you only need to use is or are.

 

His bedroom is very small.

 

The girls are tall and thin.

 

 

Below is an example.

 

 

 

Picture One

 

Today it is Tom's birthday. Tom has a present. He hopes it is a drum. There is a birthday cake next to him.

 

 

Picture Two

 

Tom opens his present. It is a blue bag. Tom is sad because it isn't a drum.

 

 

Picture Three

 

Tom opens the bag. There is a treasure map inside it. Tom is happy.

 

 

Picture Four

 

It is a nice day. Tom is walking in the garden with his map. It is a big green garden. His parents are watching him.

 

 

Picture Five

 

Tom is looking under a tree. His parents are helping him. There are some drums under the tree. Tom is very happy.

 

 

Shall

 

Shall is used to make suggestions or offers.

 

Suggestions

 

Shall I open the door?

 

Shall we go to the park?

 

Shall we dance?

 

 

Offers

 

I shall help you.

 

We shall drive you to madrid.
