In this unit the boys will study Parts of a Plant, Plants are Living Things, and Plant Reproduction.
En esta unidad los niños estudiarán las partes de una planta, las plantas son cosas de la vida y reproducción de plantas.
Parts of a Plant
There are different types of plant like trees, bushes and herbs.
Plants are living things.
Plants need soil, water, air and sunlight to live.
Hay diferentes tipos de plantas, árboles, arbustos y hierbas.
Las plantas son seres vivos.
Las plantas necesitan tierra, agua, aire y luz del sol para vivir.
The basic parts of a plant are roots, stem, leaves and flowers.
Las partes básicas de una planta son raíz, tallo, hojas y flores.
Roots hold the plant in the ground. They absorb all the nutrients the plant needs to grow.
The stem holds the plant up. It carries the water to the leaves and flowers.
Leaves make the food for the plant using sunlight, water and air.
Flowers are colourful and smell nice to attract insects.
You can eat all parts of a plant. The roots, the stem, the leaves and the flowers.

Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil.
The stem carries water and minerals from the roots to the leaves.
The plant mixes air, sunlight, water and minerals in its leaves and makes them into nutrients.
A plant uses energy from the sunlight to produce its own food. This is called photosynthesis.

When the seeds germinate a new plant grows from them.
